YouTube has been pushing upgrades to the site in slow doses (in the form of a nifty, basic editor, for example). Now you can even request auto-captioning of your Youtube videos to reach a larger audience (anyone that speaks a different language, wants to learn English or experiences some kind of hearing impairment).
It’s actually not that hard to manually put subtitles into your videos. It often just takes a bit of time, but soon enough, you’ll be able to translate videos to improve accessibility (especially when subtitles in your language aren’t available on the Web), or when you just want to be funny (like some of the English-subtitled Hitler spoofs on the iPad).
How To Create Your Own Video Subtitle
Here we will create own video subtitle with or without software or your can say simple text editor and VideoPad. There are many others ways but these are the best ways to create your own video subtitle so let’s take a look at these both methods.
1. Steps to Create Your Own Video Subtitle Using Text Editor
For this article, we’ll be using the built-in Notepad text editor in Windows to make basic subtitles with no additional color or font customization. Open Notepad and save your file with the .srt extension and is in UTF-8 (especially if you’re inputting special characters).
First of all, you need to right-click anywhere on desktop and then select “New Text Document” or else search for Notepad in a search box.
Now you need to enter your details in the following format on Text editor.
- Subtitle number
- Start time –> End time
- Subtitle texts
- Blank line
Subtitle Number: 1,2,3,4 (depends on how much lines you want to add)
Subtitle time —> End time: 00:00:19,000 –> 00:00:22,600 (Hour, Minutes, Seconds, Milliseconds)
Subtitle Texts: The text that you want to display in the video
Blank Line: To separate the text files.
00:00:19,000 –> 00:00:22,600
Hey Vishal Rana are you in market now ?
00:00:24,900 –> 00:00:27,700
Oh sorry, I forgot to go there?
00:00:29,600 –> 00:00:33,600
Don’t tell me sorry. It was really urgent ! !
After that once you have completed adding all lines, now click on file in Notepad and select option “Save As”
Now save file in any name but must be in .SRT format and in encoding select “UTF-8”.
That’s it! You are done, this is the easiest way to create subtitle for your video without any tool. You can now play this file using any video player.
